I made these photographs in February 2007 in the Southern States of the USA, mainly in Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida.

Jacob at Wesleyian University in Connecticut - with his former agent Muwwakkill. He used to organise a lot of the shows Jacob had in the US in the last 20 years. I always was surprised how many peoples lives got involved with the "American Pictures" over the years - if it was on a professional and/or private level.


On our way to Memphis, Tennessee. There we visited Sonya Mull and her 2 beautiful sons. We went out in Memphis and had beer. These were the only moments were I missed Germany. ;-)))

After Memphis we travelled down south to Philadelphia, Mississippi. Jacob said that without coming across this town in the 70s, the book would miss some of its best pictures.
On our way we stopped from time to time to visit people that live in trailors along the highway.

We visited Cora Rush and her grandchildren - Rush is the family of Jacobs ex-wife Annie Rush. Annie grew up in Philadelphia but left everything behind as a teenager.
In Philadelphia I fell in love with the cutest baby I have ever seen. The little boy just jumped on my lap and wanted to play.
