I made these photographs in February 2007 in the Southern States of the USA, mainly in Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida.

Working at the car wash.
Although Jacob did a lot of work about slavery, he loves to have his own slaves. In this case you can see me washing our van. I loved to do it because it was one of the moments I could be on my own WITHOUT Jacob!! But a minute later he made these photographs. I could never find some peace of mind on this trip! Brother, what a price I paid!

Natchez, Mississippi
1973 Jacbo met Emily (Emily) in Natchez. (Click at the right photograph) She shot herself in the head a year later. On our visit in Natchez and while looking for other friends of Jacob, by accident we bumped into this beautiful house next to the Mississippi. The woman, Margarete Burkley, as it turned out, used to be married to Emilies ex-husband. And even more strange she used to work together with my professor at the Unisversity in Augsburg where I made my exam. Well, our world is really small. You should be careful and not making too many enemies. ;-)

A gas station in the seventies - and now, 2007. They changed the color from black to a whiter teint. More pics about this: http://www.american-pictures.com/roots/chapter-51.htm
