From New Orleans we headed for Florida to get some warmth. But we were wrong. As we arrived there at night we got the coldest night of the trip in the van - and both ended up with getting a cold. Bad luck. Florida - the sunshine state!

In Alachua, Florida we were trying to find Linda Jerkins. She is the little girl in Jacobs book (click in the photographs). Linda and her story were always my favorite pages in the book because as a little girl I could easily identify with her - more than with the adults in the book. But we could not meet Linda on our trip since she is again in prison till June 2007. She has been to prison many times in the last years - mostly because of crack - and Jacob helps her as much as he can. But we were not that unlucky as we could find Linda's brother Robert Jerkins. He was deeply moved by meeting Jacob. He saw the photographs of him and his sister in the book for the first time. The photographs are 30 years old and Robert doesn't have any pictures of this time period of his life.

From Alachua we moved ahead to Gainesville, Florida. There we visited some more friends of Jacob:Alicia Myers and Deborah Welch and Inez Wright,
